Lcsw Kelsey Reeder’s Expertise Pronouns: she, her, hers Kelsey Reeder is a Clinical Social Worker and Advanced Practice PhD Student at Columbia School of Social Work. Her Masters in Social Work focused on Advanced Integrative Practice & Programming with a concentration in Contemporary Social Issues (exploring emerging social problems, their etiology, epidemiology, and interconnections; relevant policies, programs, and practices; and coordination or lack thereof among service systems that seek to address these problems). After earning her MSW at Columbia, Kelsey spent five years working clinically in the fields of foster care, school social work, and community mental health. She received post-graduate training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, and maintains a private practice focused on relationship challenges, family conflict, and the expansiveness of queer and trans identity. Research Interests: Kelsey's research aims to subvert social work education, practice, and research through lenses of anti-colonialism and queer theory. Her work considers how social work can be taught and carried out in ways that challenge dominant systems and offer paths towards liberation. Therapeutic Approach: Kelsey works individually with children, teens, and adults on a variety of issues, and has specialized training in work with queer, trans, and genderfluid people around identity formation, celebration, and expansion. Her lens and therapeutic approach are intersectional and informed by critical race, queer, feminist, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based theories. Specialized Training: Undoing Racism Workshop (People's Institute for Survival & Beyond - 2012), Motivational Interviewing I & II (Harm Reduction Coalition - 2014), Talking About Race with Youth People (Border Crossers - 2015), Complicated Grief Treatment (The Center for Complicated Grief - 2015), Family and Couples Therapy Skills & Practice (Ackerman Institute for the Family - 2017), HIV Infection & AIDS (AIDS Institute, New York State Department of Health - 2018). With training and experience in graphic design (logos, advertisements, infographics, and informational pamphlets), as well as website and content management, Kelsey has a passion for the use of design in social initiatives and movements for change.
